A serious international political umbrella group for advocates of cannabis law reform
Working together towards cannabis pro-legislation worldwide

About Legalise Cannabis International

Legalise Cannabis International (LCI) is not an off-shoot of any other cannabis campaign group - it is an autonomous international umbrella group for international cannabis law reform - that's how LCI started and how we aim to carry on. We hold no funds, we don't charge membership fees, we only allow fund-raising by our Officers for their campaigns but otherwise we don't ask people to donate for any reason.

Legalise Cannabis International is an affiliate NGO of The Global Initiative for Drug Policy Reform, which is co-ordinated by the Beckley Foundation. We support this global Initiative to bring about the "war on drugs" and their efforts to effect reform of the 1961 UN Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, the 1971 UN Convention on Psychotropic Substances and the 1988 UN Convention Against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances - all of which currently prevent sovereign nations, who are signatories to these three Conventions, from developing their own national domestic policies on cannabis law reform. These three UN Conventions are the things that need to be reformed on a global level and we believe that it will be the Beckley Foundation who will achieve this important goal via their impressively focussed work. Please read our web page here.

LCI supports all ballot and legalisation initiatives worldwide, whether they are for cannabis, hemp, MMJ, growing - we support them all. We use Facebook as our Group interface and post links to our Wall as links for our Group members to check out, think about, discuss or promote.

The Objective of Legalise Cannabis International

As mentioned, LCI is an umbrella group and exists for the enabling of US national, State and worldwide cannabis campaign groups to be able to share their initiatives, rallies, news and updates via the platform of the LCI group on FaceBook and thus outward into the mainstream of society. In this way, global campaign groups are further enabled by their affiliation with LCI to extend their reach and thus their support base by informing a worldwide audience who may be otherwise unaware of their campaign work and the extensiveness of the global campaign for cannabis law reform.

In this respect, LCI, as an umbrella group, does not involve itself with the MEANS of cannabis use. We all know that some people use cannabis as medicine, others - probably the majority of cannabis users - use cannabis for recreational use, others for spiritual or religious purposes as well as other means of use. All means of use are equally legitimate within any campaign group; the point here being that LCI does not involve itself with any kind of cannabis use - LCI concerns itself only with the promotion of cannabis law reform.

The argument also exists that cannabis use is, in itself, a means of campaigning, as well as the growing of cannabis plants, the production of cannabis oil and other activities relating to cannabis. The LCI answer to this argument is thus: "All means of promotion of cannabis use remain only within the realm of argument of cannabis advocacy and unless a campaign law reform group (as opposed to an advocacy website) is formed to campaign for law reform concerning such advocacy, it remains solely an issue of cannabis advocacy and not as cannabis law reform activity." On this basis, all posts concerning the growing of cannabis, the production and promotion of cannabis oil and all other cannabis advocacy arguments are disallowed from the LCI platform.

The decision of non-involvement concerning the means of cannabis use was an extremely considered decision on the part of the founder of LCI and is intended to prevent factions arising within our umbrella organization; factions that could bring about divisions and arguments - all of which are undesirable - and which would distract from the basis of our objective: to facilitate the sharing of global cannabis law reform campaign groups by their affiliation with Legalise Cannabis International.

About Our FaceBook Group

LCI assumes that all group members are in favor of cannabis law reform when they join the group, so no need to convince group members of the benefits of cannabis or how good a medicine it is, or what joy people get from using cannabis etc because people join the group knowing that LCI is an umbrella group for cannabis law reform. Members like this focussed approach of LCI and like to know that there are dedicated groups that are serious about campaigning to bring about support for cannabis law reform by sharing links on the group Wall, so that the links are reposted elsewhere and talked about within mainstream society, thus broadening the impact of the global campaign.

LCI group Posting Rules are clearly displayed on the LCI group Info Tab (here also) and LCI as a group stays as firmly as possible within posts that concern cannabis law reform and posts concerning legal issues, such as regulations concerning dispensaries and similarly related legal issues. LCI doesn't do cannabis advocacy (ie how good it is) or cannabis ideology (how good it could be, or otherwise) - LCI only promotes cannabis law reform - the change of global laws to allow the regulated adult use of cannabis, for whatever reason.

The LCI group Wall gets people every day asking where they can buy cannabis, sometimes making comments that would lead one to the conclusion that the person is simply fishing to increase their friends list, and then there are people who just come straight out and say "add me as a friend," others posts link to commercial web sites, or sites selling cannabis seeds and so on - all such posts are removed from the LCI group Wall and/or LCI Page. All of this has been way too labor intensive to moderate and we have therefore made posting to the group Wall accessible only to group Admins. It remains, that the LCI group and Page will be moderated to remove all such posts and the LCI Posting Rules will continue to be maintained. Group moderation is not a new idea and we certainly did not invent it, but we are able to see the benefit of having Posting Rules with a group that is working for such a serious subject as the legalization of cannabis.

People like the focussed approach that is maintained on the LCI FB group. People make comments all the time saying so, and saying that it is refreshing to find such a group with a focussed attitude and approach to cannabis legalization.

Thank you for supporting the cause for cannabis law reform. Together we will end cannabis prohibition!
